next four years are indeed prosperous for all Americans, rich and poor, black and white, male and female. Bear with me for a moment and I’ll explain how Marine Corps ideals can help heal our wounds.

Know yourself and seek self-improvement.  It’s imperative we all take the time to know who we are, determine what we love and hate, like and dislike,  and then be willing to be who we say we are.  If you don’t like the reflection in the mirror, make an honest, disciplined effort to improve. Make your/our first goal becoming your/our own best friend.

Be technically and tactically proficient.  In our daily lives we must strive to be the best at what we do.  No matter the task, not everyone in America can do the job of his or her neighbor; therefore, no job is unimportant or demeaning. Know and adhere to the tactics and nuances of your career choice. Be aware; there are those who will attempt to use your perceived weaknesses against you.  Discover and confront your weak points; fundamental knowledge for developing the skill and insight required to build strong bonds between individuals and communities.

Develop a sense of responsibility… You must first take responsibility for your own actions, before you can hold those in power responsible for theirs.  Each of us is in charge of someone else, either on the job, at home as a parent or older sibling.  We must all assume some personal responsibility before we can demand responsibility from others. We must know ourselves, as individuals, before we even begin to learn who those around us are as well.
America’s ills are well documented from the shear terror of some that feel the sins of the father will be visited on the son; fears potentially realized if the victim of the father becomes President of this land.  The father must answer for his sins, but it is not for the victim’s legacy to exact revenge. However, if the son is still guilty of the father’s sins, due to their commission of the same crimes, then it is incumbent upon us to deal with those crimes and guarantee another generation does not suffer the pain of inequality and disenfranchisement. Or, more simply stated, if the father was racist and the son is racist the grandson will likely be racist as well.  We must determine our needs, make a plan and dedicate ourselves to meeting the challenges November 4 2008 will set before us all.

If I were to open a business, I would look at business plans of McDonald’s, Subway or even Target to see how they started and grew to national and worldwide success.  So why not look to the code of the highly successful USMC; it can work to heal the wounds of fear, hate, mistrust and abuse festering across America today.
Years ago, I learned an acronym, JJDIDTIEBUCKLE, to help me remember 14 words. Justice; Judgment; Dependability; INTEGRITY; Decisiveness; Tact; Initiative; Endurance; Bearing; Unselfishness; Courage; Knowledge; Loyalty; Enthusiasm.
Those words have served me well in life and in my years as a Marine. Remember JJDIDTIEBUCKLE

JJDIDTIEBUCKLE becomes the core of a Marine’s daily live. Job and performance evaluations are written using JJDIDTIEBUCKLE as the core of our grading system. The   Uniform Code of Military Justice ensures that violations of JJDIDTIEBUCKLE can be punished swiftly and often severely.  America, Americans are well able to set standards and raise the bar for all our citizens; we can refuse to continue to tolerate violations of the core principles that make us free, that make us Americans.  We hold these truths to be self evident, that ALL men are created equal.  Now America we must have the integrity to back up our words.

The Importance of Media
by Emmanuel Brown, Staff Writer
Television, magazines, radio stations, newspapers and the World Wide Web all play a major role in the lives of people the world over. What we see and hear is important, and the people who have some form of control over these things have a power that often exists unnoticed.

We must seize the opportunity to gain control over the information distributed throughout our communities, and support the sources of information that represents the thoughts of our people in the most productive ways possible. It is imperative that we stay aware of the fact that not all of the information we receive is intended to help us grow and develop. We have an opportunity today, and everyday, to choose the sources of the information we receive.
